The Legend of the Piper from Kayla

The Legend of the Piper from Kayla

On the peninsula of Kintyre in Scotland there is a legend about the bagpiper Alesdere, about his courage and talent. He knew how to play the bagpipes like no other. After work, Alesder entertained his neighbors with dance melodies that made others start dancing, and if he began to play old songs, the people around him listened fascinated. Everyone recognized the mastery of Alesder.

One evening, when the foamy ale flowed like a river, Alesder boasted that he could play just as well as the fairies living in the huge cave of Kintyra. His words silenced the people sitting next to him. Everyone knew about the cruel fairies, punishing ordinary mortals for entering into their abode. Fairy fairies was a huge hall under the ground. Here they were entertained by magical music by elf musicians. The path leading to the hall, no one knew. It was only known that numerous underground passages lead to it, the beginning of which is located in the darkness of the cave.

Alesder took the bagpipe to play a song like the one that the fairies perform. Farmer Ayen McGraw tried to stop him. But his speeches only provoked the piper - he promised tonight to go along winding underground passages with his bagpipes and be sure to return.

While the neighbors looked at each other in horror, Alesder took his instrument and began to play a cheerful song. This was the most beautiful melody that no one has ever heard. Then the bagpiper went to the cave, continuing to play. He was accompanied by neighbors and the faithful dog.

And so Alesder disappeared into the darkness of the cliff, followed by a dog. Only the funny sounds of bagpipes came from the gorge. After a moment, the music began to resemble a heart-rending moan, and then broke off. After that, inhuman laughter was heard from the cave, and there was silence.

In a daze stood the neighbors not far away and waited. Suddenly a piper's favorite dog jumped out of the cave. He whined and limped, and there was not a single hair on his body. The owner of the dog never came out.

But the legend does not end there. The wife of Ayen McGraw, sitting near the fire on his farm, suddenly decided to put her ear to the stone slab. Unexpectedly, she heard the sound of bagpipes, which she hurried to inform her husband about. Ayen also listened - it sounded the same song with which Alesder went to the cave. And until now, people hear the music of a talented piper from Keil, when they pass by the farm of Ayen McGraw.
