Armenian folk music

Armenian folk music or folk music has been known since ancient times. In Armenian folklore, the use of wedding, ceremonial, table, labor, lullabies, household, game and other songs became widespread among the people. In the Armenian musical folklore a large place is occupied by peasant songs "Orovely" and songs "panduhtov". In different regions of Armenia, the same song was performed in different ways.

Ashugs, gusans

Armenian folklore is very rich with famous representatives of folk music, ashugs (singers, poets), gusans (Armenian folk singers). One such representative is Sayat-Nova. The Armenian people call him "King of chants". He had a beautiful voice. In the works of the Armenian poet and musician, social and love lyrics occupy one of the central places. Sayat-Nova's songs are performed by famous singers, Charles and Seda Aznavour, Tatevik Oganesyan and many others.

Magnificent samples of Armenian music were composed of ashugs and gusans of the XIX-XX centuries. These include Avashi, Sheram, Jivani, Gusan Shaen and others.

The Soviet composer, musicologist, folklorist S. A. Melikyan was engaged in the theory and history of Armenian folk music. More than 1,000 Armenian folk songs were recorded by the great composer.

Folk musical instruments

The world-famous Armenian musician, Jivan Gasparyan, masterfully playing the duduk, Armenian folklore spread to the whole world. He introduced the whole of humanity to a wonderful folk musical instrument - the Armenian duduk, which is made of apricot tree.
